We are proud as punch to announce some very exciting news, here at Happydesigner. We have branched out (pardon the pun) and been commissioned to illustrate the design for a garden that will be on show at no less than the Chelsea Flower Show.
Garden designer Jamie Butterworth, who runs Form Plants in Windsor, is creating a garden at this year’s show – the most prestigious show in the gardening calendar – and wanted his design to be turned into an illustration. Usually, the designs are digitally created.
His garden design has been commissioned by children’s mental health charity Place2Be, in partnership with Sarasin & Partners, and will promote the importance of children’s mental health, offering a safe space where children can take time and talk. It was this that inspired Jamie to seek an illustration that wouldn’t look out of place in a children’s book.
When he was searching for a children’s book illustrator, Jamie came across Happydesigner, and liked our drawings, because he wanted something in the style of Quentin Blake, with a dreamy quality. We fitted the bill and the rest, as they say, is history!
Jamie provided his rough design plans and we set to work on an illustration to bring them to life. It was an amazing project to be involved with and we are thrilled that both Jamie and Place2Be are very happy with the image we created. The Royal Horticultural Society have even shared our garden illustration on social media, which blew our minds!
The Chelsea Flower Show is on from May 24-28, and once it is over Jamie’s garden will be relocated to Viking Primary School in West London, which is in a deprived area where the majority of the children live in flats, with limited access to outside space. The garden aims to be safe and peaceful, where children can feel calm and are able to talk, while also taking in the beauty of plants and the benefits of being outdoors.
We are so pleased to have played a small part in helping Jamie to create this amazing garden. We can’t wait to see it, once it has been planted up and is on show at Chelsea, and how fantastic that it will carry on as a garden, for children to enjoy.
Jamie has won awards at Chelsea before, for his gardens, so we wish him lots of luck for more success this year for the Place2Be Securing Tomorrow Garden.
For Happydesigner, we have so enjoyed illustrating the garden, we would love to do more. You never know, maybe next year we will be called upon again to help illustrate a garden design for Chelsea.
